about

A raw, candid retrospective of select tracks throughout my music career since I was a kid.
As proper a send off as I can give these songs, each with a dear memory attached to it, for better or worse.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ever since I was a kid, I was sure music was THE thing I wanted to do.

I can trace it back to specific moments.

In elementary school, learning how to sing in Mrs. Johnson's class was my favorite part of the day.

I inherited my first keyboard when my oldest brother went off to college when I was 9 years old. It was a shitty little keyboard but it had cool sounds and it was the first thing I ever fell in love with.

In 6th grade, I got my first music player.
My family was hit hard by the recession, and getting that $10 off-brand 2GB Usb music player was so exciting for me, cuz I could hide it in my pocket and put any song I wanted on it. Everyone had iPods and now I had one too, sort of.

I didn't have a lot of friends at school, and found refuge on niche corners of the internet.
Youtube unlocked an endless horizon of music for me, as did Limewire. I pirated a copy of Sony Acid Pro, mashed up premade loops for 2 years, and made bad music until I got my hands on Ableton and it changed my life forever.

I started learning how to kinda actually make music at this point, and connected with other music nerds online until I found community at the birth of a new kind of music; Vaporwave. I adopted my first moniker as CAST at 15, which became Roiju, once I outgrew Vaporwave and music became something a bit more spiritual and thoughtful for me. I knew something had to change, because for the first time ever, I felt I had something to say that I couldn't express with words.

That's where this collection of music I'm sharing today starts.

I've been struggling for a while to figure out how to transition from my old work making piano compositions, ambient, and more experimental electronic music for a while now, as I gear up for A LOT of upcoming, more club oriented releases that are drastically different from what I've made in the past, and I can't think of a better send off for my past selves, than releasing select tracks from the last 8 years. Ordered chronologically, to archive a progression that I hope will make sense of where I come from, and what comes next.

Can't wait to share real soon. Thanks for reading.
